Two remarks only it may be well to make by way of explanation.
First, as to the title: Epea Pteroenta was the title originally intended, but the publisher was of opinion that a Greek title, the meaning of which would not be at once perceived by many readers, would not be attractive, and' ofgentually, as the best alternative, it was decide'd' to adopt. Its English equivalent, Winged Word's, iwhich has at all events the sanctifying: qualmy of alliteration.
