But I mean something more when I speak of develop ment than such changes as may be measured by the tape, calipers or Spirometer, and I would call this school the anthropometric one, because from it has come the im pulse to judge the results of our work by actual measure ments. Even if we believe that the measurements in vogue are inadequate or inappropriate, it does not de tract from the honor due this school for having pointed out as none before them that a science of gymnastics can never grow up except upon the basis of some kind of measurements.
