Vancouver, the Pacific Port of the Empire

Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from Vancouver, the Pacific Port of the Empire: An Address at the Vancouver Progress Club, Wednesday, August 20th, 1913For several years now it has seemed that every city and almost every hamlet on the Pacific Ocean has been making some adequate preparation to meet the new conditions precipitated by the Panama ('anal and other movements on this ocean, with the sole and single exception of Vancouver. On our side of the water, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Tacoma, Seattle, Victoria and Prince Rupert have all shown some laudible public spirit, and some measure of foresight. W'e alone have been sitting here in our sloth as if the dock and harbor facilities of a world port could be comprehended within a few wooden wharves. This is a subject which no man who has any interest in the future of Vancouver can approach without shame. Some day perhaps the question will he raised in a cogent way as to why we have been doing nothing worthy of our opportunity.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
