Uses of Commercial Woods of the United States, Vol. 1

Excerpt from Uses of Commercial Woods of the United States, Vol. 1: Cedars, Cypresses, and SequoiasOur forests have been so extensive, so widely separated, and so full of woods of diverse qualities that we have succeeded in compiling only the most categorical lists of the uses to which the various woods are put. The qualities of our better-known woods are, of course, well understood by those who handle them, and their properties have been stated by different writers. Their uses, which differ much under different conditions, are also recorded, but the records are scattered far and wide in books, Government reports, unpublished lectures and papers, and trade journals. The need has therefore arisen to bring together in convenient form the available information on the uses of the different commercial woods, and this the Forest Service has planned to do in a series of bulletins, of which this is the first. The series, it is believed, will be of especial interest to lumbermen and those engaged in the wood-using industries, to foresters, and to instructors and students in forest schools.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
