You who suffer chronic pain, and you who care about those who do, will profit greatly from the content of these poetic prayers. This book is a thoughtful gift for one whose life is burdened with this unwelcome guest. The author, who suffered many years with pain, puts this seeming enemy in perspective-surprisingly as a friend. Scripture references, specific for each prayer, underscore the thesis of the writer that pain can become our ally instead of our adversary. Pain is portrayed as at first an unwelcome guest in our lives. Then, contrary to common practice, the author, in her own experience, embraced pain as one who brought her closer to God. These prayer poems were written over a span of several years during which the writer suffered intensely. Her account of how she came to terms with this intruder will encourage chronic pain sufferers to reevaluate their circumstances. The values incorporated in these poetic prayers are enormous for those who seek to make sense out of suffering.
