Mark Twain is best known for his novels and short stories. Twain uses his incredible whit to depict life in America. His books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have been read by school children for generations. His life on the Mississippi River has peeked the imagination of boys to go and build a raft and sail off into unknown adventures. The Tragedy of Pudd'nhead Wilson is set in a Mississippi river town in the first half on the 19th century. David Wilson is a new lawyer in town and one odd remark has branded him Pudd'nhead Wilson. The story shifts to a slave named Roxy who is 1\16 black. She switches her son with the masterZs son so her son could have a chance in the world. The story describes the racism of the antebellum south, even as to seemingly white people with minute traces of Negro ancestry, and the acceptance of that state of affairs by all involved, including the black population.
