The lands around Monadnock, up to this time, were uninhabited save by the Indians who roved over this region and the native wild animals as yet undisturbed. Eight Monadnock Townships were laid out, one of which, Mon adnock No. 5, granted in 17 51, was the present town of Marl boro.
