It is believed, however, that the narrative, while read able, as so dramatic a story ought certainly to be, can safely be accepted as trustworthy history. So far as I can learn, after an examination of a long series of admirable works in this department of American history, this is the first single work in which is presented separately the record of each of the thirteen colonies from its first settlement to the Declaration of Independence. The attempt has been made not only to depict each plantation upon its own geographical background, but as a distinct entity, to show the decisive events of its Object and growth.
