Excerpt from The Theological and Literary Journal, Vol. 9: July, 1856-April, 1857But that, even if true, which it is not, would make as much against the point he attempts to establish, as for it. For if the passage in question is so framed that it cannot be understood before the event which it foreshows takes place, how is he to prove that it is not a prediction of a real resurrection of the holy dead? Could not he see that his argument is directed as much against his interpretation of the prediction, as against that which he rejects? To assume that the indeterminableness, or uncertainty of meaning from which he reasons, does not attach to his construction of the prophecy, is to retract the ground which he alleges to prove his point, and, in direct contradiction to it, claim that the prophecy is so framed that it can be clearly seen that his interpretation is true, and that other constructions are false!About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
