The Struggle for Eden
BücherAngebote / Angebote:
This ethnographic portrait of community gardens on the Lower East Side of New York illustrates how diverse groups of predominantly poor and low-income people involved in urban community gardens seek to redefine the content and meaning of their urban existence. They work to recreate community on new terms, while actively and creatively fighting for these contested urban spaces. An instance of urban history, this study is at once an intensely local story and an issue of national and global relevance, speaking to the future of cities and the role of individuals as active agents within them.
