Excerpt from The Street Railway Question in ChicagoOn February 21, 1861, the Illinois legislature passed an act which incorporated the Chicago West Division Rail way Company, with the same powers as the two previously established companies, but required the consent of the North Chicago Company before the construction of any tracks in the north division, and authorized the new company to acquire any of the rights of the City Railway Company.
