Exposition undertaking, and so these opening events were almost in the nature of family affairs. Thenceforth this narrative concerns itself mainly with the more important incidents. But it should be carried in mind that as a Class and as a whole the special events staged on this grand stage had a deep educational importance. The range of subjects was large, and formed a review of recent accomplishment and contemporary thought. Men set forth, in carefully prepared addresses, the most pertinent matters about the various lines of endeavor they represented - nothing less than descriptions bearing upon the commercial and industrial organization of society, and its larger social characteristics and needs, in the distinct lines of service that were being honored by the formal ceremonies in the Court of the Universe or the Court of Abundance or in Festival Hall, or the Musical Concourse when Festival Hall was too small to hold the audiences.
