On the sur face of society all is calm. It is a good sea for any bark that ¿ies a Christian ¿ag. But under that placid surface there is a current-a vague, undefined movement of thought. It is an un formed, uncertain, unasserted doubt that comes from many sources. It comes from the laboratory, where the demand for material premises has 'killed the germs of faith, and where cherished conclusions are impossible in the light of Christian doctrine.
