Excerpt from The Sportsman's Cabinet, and Town and Country Magazine, Vol. 1: A Periodical Devoted to the Genuine Sports of the Field, and Interesting Illustrations of Natural History, November, 1832, to April, 1833
The present season (1832) produced plenty of grouse, which, on the 12th of August, were found very strong on the wing, and very wild. Much rain fell during the incubation of the partridge and the pheasant, but the weather durin the period of hatching was fine, an these birds were found in tolerable plenty. Hares have been remarkably prolific, and the same observation, we have not the least doubt, will apply to foxes.
