Excerpt from The Slagging Type of Gas Producer: With a Brief Report of Preliminary Tests
The adaptability of the gas producer for the utilization of low grade or high-ash fuels was pointed out early in its history but the development of producer apparatus for the consumption of such fuel has never made marked progress, and at the present time but little use is made of those fuels especially high in ash. There are two or three European plants reported to be operating satisfactorily upon fuels containing as high as 50 to 60 per cent of ash, but the use of fuels of this type is by no means general, although there is said to be much interest in the matter and also a full realization of the desirability of utilizing all low-grade fuels.
