Excerpt from The Second Person Singular of the Latin Future Indicative as an Imperative The purpose of this investigation is to determine, so far as possible, the thought and feeling present in the mind of the writer when the future indicative is used as an imperative. The examples, numbering 817, have been taken from all the remains of the' Latin language down to the early part of the second century A. D. A list of the authors consulted, together With the texts used, may be found in the bibliography, page 5. Many examples are also given which have been taken from the later Latin writers, but no attempt has been made to make this part of the collection complete. It will be seen that a vast amount of ground has been covered and it would be difficult to say how complete the collection is. In the majority of cases the work of examining was done but once, and probably some examples have been overlooked.
