Excerpt from The Register: Baptisms, Marriages, and Deaths, From 1699 to 1730 The oldest Register of the Alston Parish, which is preserved locally, contains the following entries: Alston. Baptisms. 1706 - 1727, and a few odd items on detached and defaced leaves. Marriages. 1701 - 1727. Burials. 1701 - 1727. Garrigill. Baptisms. 1708 - 1729. There is also a most unique feature. I have never heard of the like in any other Parish. "A distinct Register of Nonconformists." This covers the period from 1704 to 1728. The "Nonconformists" were (1) the Presbyterians introduced by Burnand of Brampton or (2) the Independents who followed Reginald Walton, or (3) both parties.
