This, combined with a Christian education, inspired me to write stories that convey morals reinforced with biblical references and precedents but without feeling like sermons. I believe that morals without a divine foundation are empty. No God means no real authority to set universal standards, morals become opinions, each being no more legitimate than any other. Also, in keeping with things of a universal kind, the setting of this story has been distilled so that it favors no particular culture or place. The characters too are very common: a professor, a dog, a cat, and a raven.
