And so I come tonight frankly to glorify that great profession which on the forward march of the South has done its level and its loyal best.
Fully realizing as I do, that I speak just in advance of Col. Theodore Roosevelt, I will see to it that my brevity shall express the modesty of the provincial rushlight ¿icker ing in the forefront of the electric glory which so recently has filled the world.
Let me make plain in the beginning that I am not here to give one word of advice to the newspapers of the South. I have come not to bury Caesar, but to praise him.
