Excerpt from The Presbyterian Review: April, 1883When we come, however, to the New Testament we find many undoubted references to the Second Coming of Christ, about which there is no dispute. Such are Matt. Xvi. 27, xxv. 31 - 46, I Cor. Xv. 23 - 28 Phil. Iii. 20, 21 I Thess. I. 10, iv. 16, 17, etc. Now, is there any allusion to the setting up of a kingdom on the earth at or after the Second Advent in any one of these scores of passages? Not a single instance of the kind has been pointed out. The only exam ples appealed to are cases in which the destruction of Judaism is confessedly spoken of in the same immediate connection, or pas sages about the meaning of which judicious commentators have always differed. These cases we shall consider hereafter. Now, this fact that in all the clear references to the Second Advent in the New Testament, there is not one in which there is a word about the set ting up of the Redeemer's kingdom on the earth as a sequel of, His coming, seems to us decisive against the doctrine that the Second Coming is to be premillennial.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
