Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from The Popular Science Monthly, Vol. 81: January to June, 1912The rapid discoveries of disease-producing microorganisms estab lished definitely Pasteur's doctrine of specificity as applied to etiology and led at once to an interest in public health measures which increased as the years passed, until now it has become one of the most vital inter ests of our social system. Even in the early eighties, with a knowledge of the etiology and mode of transmission of a few diseases and of Lister's results in antiseptic surgery, it was possible to postulate general pro phylactic measures safeguarding the individual and the community, and as knowledge of etiology and transmission increased, so did prophylaxis. Hygeia was again enthroned and it was recognized that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
