Subsequently, however, he came here with General Forbes, was present, and rendered service at the building of Fort Pitt. He was an industrious, enterprising man, and kept the first ferry over the Monongahela, from his house, one door south of Ferry street, and adjoin ing Sample's tavern, Where the Virginia House now stands. He always bore the character of an honest, worthy citizen, and in his latter days, at least, was a pious man.
