Excerpt from The North Carolina Historical Review, Vol. 7: Issued Quarterly, January-October 1930The first group of Moravian Brethren reached Wachovia on November 17, 17 53, the land surveyed according to Spangenberg's instructions having been bought by the Unitas Fratrum, or Moravian Church, on the terms customary at that time, that is a cash payment and an annual quit rent.
