Excerpt from The North Alaskan Eskimo: A Study in Ecology and SocietyIt is to be regretted that the press of duties elsewhere prevented an Observation of the year-round cycle and pattern of life of the North Alaskan Eskimo. It is hoped that at some future time this may be accomplished. Since, however, the primary concern Of this research lies with the aboriginal North Alaskan Eskimo culture, much Of the data Obtained had to be dependent On the memory Of Older living informants. In the contemporary culture there is much to suggest the undisrupted native past, but 'many institutions have been sub jected to change and it is only from the Older peoples, those whose memories reach back to the last decades Of the 1800's, that the facts of the integrated and untouched native society can be elicited.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
