He summed up the whole illiterate, and impertinent, and impervious article by saying that the burning question now is not: Was Jesus Christ - but, Is Roberts God The Roberts article was but a crude expression of a present-day tendency to have done with Christ by separating him from the ideal he has given us in his person. Roberts put bluntly what many others put more adroit ly - Christ is a creation of pious imagination, or unreasoning.
