Its preservation is simply mar vellous, especially considering the risks to which it was exposed in the great siege in the seventeenth century. There can be no doubt that the escape Of this sacred building from serious injury at this time was due to Ferdinand, Lord Fairfax, who did his utmost to prevent firing into that part Of the city where the Minster stands.
