The Library, 1900, Vol. 1

Excerpt from The Library, 1900, Vol. 1: A Quarterly Review of Bibliography and Library LoreIn its new form the library will be adequately illustrated, and will be printed at the Chiswick Press. When the library was established in 1889 it made a new departure in library literature, and, in spite of the narrow limits of its subject, it has lived just twice as long as the longest lived of its predecessors. This is no doubt largely due to the fact that its pages have not been confined to the mere technicalities of library work, but have appealed to all interested in bookish things. In the new series the library will become even more catholic, and will endeavour to justify its name in a new and wider sense, and, as a good special library should do, will contain everything about one thing, and will exclude nothing likely to be of use or interest to its readers. Thus each number will contain a careful review and criticism of recent achievements in Art, Science, and the Drama. Each number will contain, as a frontispiece, a portrait of an eminent bookman, past or present, with a sketch of his life. The portrait in No. I. Will be that of Dr. Garnett, reproduced, by permission, from the painting by the Hon. John Collier.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
