The former figures probably represent hydrolyzed hippuric acid since van de Velde and Stokvis (31) showed that if urine were collected directly from the ureters no free benzoic acid was present.In order to make use of the excretion of hippuric acid during the 6 hour period as a measure of the rate of synthesis of glycine, it must be shown that the excretion of hippuric acid depends upon the amount of glycine available and not upon the rate of absorption of benzoate from the intestine, nor upon the rate of formation of hippuric acid, nor upon the rate of elimination of hippuric acid by the kidneys.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
