Excerpt from The Journal of Balneology and Climatology, Vol. 2: Being the Quarterly Journal of the British Balneological and Climatological Society, 1898
The patient takes this mixture for a temporary purpose, many, however, continue the practice for the sake of the wine after convalescence is established. Probably the evil results are not great, but far different is the case when potent drugs are mixed with wine, and especially the coca preparations.
In my experience this practice is largely increasing, and many neurotic women are becoming slaves to this habit, and a few, who would otherwise have had no temptation, have become addicted to stimulants. Living as you do in the health resorts of Great Britain, your in¿uence might do much to lessen this danger to the community.
