Excerpt from The Insolvency Law of Victoria: Comprising an Exposition of the Law and Practice Relating to Insolvency and Deeds of Arrangement in the Colony of Victoria, Including the Insolvency Act 1890, the Insolvency Act 1897, the Insolvency Act 1898IT has been the desire of the writer of this work to embrace in the text the law and practice of Insolvency drawn from the sources of the Statutes, Rules and reported decisions of the Vic torian and English Courts. The text is divided into eleven chapters, based as nearly as possible on the eleven Divisions or Parts of the Act of 1890. Chapter II., Practice only relates, it is proper to mention, to matters of practice Wth are not dealt with elsewhere in the text. The Appendix comprises the Insol vency Acts, and the Rules of the Supreme and Insolvency Courts and forms up to date, the pages where the subject matter of each section or rule is dealt with in the text being given in figures at the end of each section or rule. The repealed sections of the Act of 1890 are printed in italics, and the other sections of such Act amended or affected by the Act of 1897 are marked as the case may be in the margin opposite to such particular sections. Comparisons, where necessary, have been made throughout the text to the English and other sources whence the sections of the Acts of 1890 and 1897 have been derived, but in the case of the Rules the comparisons appear in the margin either opposite to each rule or at the head of a group. The writer has to express his sincere thanks to Mr. P. R. Cotes, a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court, for much valuable assistance rendered in the course of the preparation of this volume, W. H.
