The Heartbeat of the Prophetic

Can one be grateful for exile? This isn't the first time I've asked this question nor is it the first time this question has been asked. After survival, gratitude is the most difficult question that exiles wrestle with. As a Jew, I inherit a history of exile. Still, present-day Jewish exile is quite different. The prophetic, too, is a Jewish distinctive but the contemporary Jewish prophetic, like exile, is up against a curious set of circumstances. Among them the Holocaust and an ever-expanding and militaristic Israel. In these commentaries I explore the heartbeat of the prophetic. What exactly is the heartbeat of the prophetic? Where is the prophetic heartbeat to be found? If we cannot define it completely, how can we approach the prophetic which is so powerful and vulnerable at the same time? I seek to unravel this mystery, as an act of self-understanding and as a gift to all those who struggle with the prophetic in their lives. Since I continue to write daily, obviously I have yet to solve the puzzle of puzzles.
