Excerpt from The Haverfordian, Vol. 3: October, 1881American cricket is improving every year, and, if Haverford would maintain the position She has so long held among Philadelphia clubs, her members must work, endeavoring not only to perfect themselves, but also to infuse the ambition to do the same into the minds of others. It, of course, will depend a great deal upon the captain and the ground committee whether the eleven practices as it ought, as every movement must have some one to direct it. Therefore we would say to the captain, whoever he may bo, thet the position in which he is placed is one of great responsibility, and that it will require much energy and tact on his part to fill it successfully.We would advise you who are new members of the college to stick to cricket until you can thoroughly enjoy it, and once able to do this, you will not need our advice to keep you playing. Should you stick to it, we assure you that you will never regret the time spent in learning this delightful game. What I most regret in my college life is that I did not learn to play cricket in my Freshman year, has been frequently said by gradu ates of Haverford.
