This handbook offers a comprehensive overview of the complexity and diversity of media and
information literacies (MIL) research in the digital era. It considers the relation of MIL to the
school and media environment. It presents and assesses traditional approaches and identifies
how they have evolved with the changing media challenges. It places MIL as a worldwide
project, empowered by diverse perspectives that theorize and conduct research on the field as
it is still being elaborated.
This handbook will include contributions from outstanding international scholars in the field,
most of whom are regular contributors to the MER section of IAMCR. The different parts of
the handbook are based on recurring themes and workshops conducted during IAMCR
conferences over the last five years. The main public target will be academics and researchers
but also teachers and practitioners as well as decision makers (possible cooperation with
UNESCO).
