In many of our minds it is associated with the work of Charles Simeon and the Evangelical Revival. If we go back to the seventeenth century, we find that it was from the same centre that Benjamin Whichcote, the Provost of King's, disseminated the teaching by which the Cambridge Platonists harmonised religion and philosophy. The precise position of this group of thinkers may be most accurately gathered from the elaborate treatises of Cudworth and More.
