Excerpt from The Epidemic of Barley Yellow Dwarf on Oats in 1959Starting on April 13, 195 9, inspections for the presence of aphids on known winter hosts and on wild and cultivated grasses were made two to three times weekly at nine locations near Ottawa. Regular inspections were also made to determine the earliest aphid infestations, and the first evidence of disease in Spring-sown grains. Dates on which observations of particular interest were noted are as follows: April 13 Aphid eggs, but no aphids, on Sorbus spp. Crataegus Spp. And Prunus Spp. In the Arboretum at Ottawa.
