Excerpt from The Emblem of 1936 Mr. Laughli'n's long and varied experience on elementary, high school, and college levels has won for him the distinction of being one of the outstanding school ex ecutives in the Chicago system. He came to Chicago in 1916, after having served in public schools in Indian-a and Illinois, and taught mathematics at the Harrison Technical High School. His first contacts with the Normal College were made as an instructor, first in the Mathematics Department, and later in the Education Depart ment. Mr. Laughlin soon decided to enter the administrative field, in which he has since made rapid and steady progress. Principal of the Libby Elementary School in 1924, principal of the Parker Senior High School in 1926, president of the Chi cago Normal College in 1928, and Dean of the South Side Junior College in 1934 these are the steps in his remarkable progress to public recognition. His capacity for educational leadership secured for him the chairmanship of the important Educa tion Committee of the Chicago Principals' Club. Mr. Laughlin is a member of the National Honor Fraternity in Education, Phi Delta Kappa. Outdoor sports includ ing tennis, fishing, and hunting are his chief diversions.
