Examination of the precipitates for metallic particles showed that the loss due to this cause was very small and will not account for the excess corrosion. Doubtless, part of this excess corrosion was due to local action and there is a faint possibility that some of the metal may dissolve with a lower valence than two which would, of course, increase its electrochemical equivalent.
