In the present case I have in addition been Often confronted with that curious situation Of comparative paucity of decisive instances which not infrequently robs the argument of its cogency. Many Of the changes involved in the discussion must have taken place long prior to any literature we possess, and the remnants Of even these earliest linguistic documents are lamentably few.
