The English statutes are generally designated by the year of the king's reign in which they were enacted, thus, 1 Car. 2. C. 7 s. L. Means the First of Charles the second, Chap. 7. Section 1. So Joe. Means James for the names are suppo sed to be in Latin but the reigns of the other English kings are referred to as if the names were written in English.
