Excerpt from The Collections of the Late Robert Van Patten and William Winterbottom With Additions From Other Sources: Comprising Lowestoft With Armorial Decorations, Chinese Scenes and Anglo-American Marines, Early Stiegel and Other Eighteenth Century American, English, Irish and Scotch GlassAmong the unusual pieces in the two groups will be found a very rare dinner service of rose border decoration, an almost complete dinner service with quite exquisite marine decorations and a unique pair of large pun'ch bowls with portraits of the early Cambridge orchestra of amateur musicians. There are several pieces bearing the New York State and the United States coats of arms. The lover of the ship-deco rated Lowestoft will be interested in the bowls, tea services, jugs, tea pots and mugs having decorations reminiscent of well-known ships of bygone days and of the sea. Those preferring the armorial type will find water-bottles, platters, bowls and mugs with elaborate crests in beautifully executed cartouches. There is, too, a most unusual pair of cow figures and two pairs of rare mantel urns, one having the American gold star decoration.Early Stiegel and other eighteenth century American, English, Irish and Scotch glass is represented by an exceedingly fine array of pieces, some are museum specimens, while others are of real grace and beauty aside from their interest as collectors' pieces.Among the more important examples of furniture are two walnut grandmother clocks, a Chippendale carved mahogany wig-stand, of which but very few have come to light, and several sets of carved ma bogany chairs of the Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton periods. There is a double secretary bookcase of great interest, two dainty sew ing-tables, an unusually fine tall dining-room cabinet of the Hepplewhite period, a set of Early American lyre-back dining chairs which is unique, several sofas and many fine needlework samplers, miniature silhouettes and historic wax portraits, mirrors and other decorative objects.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
