The same was done in Darmstadt by Dr. Polsing in 1843 and 1847.Meantime Froebel had founded a training insti tution as early as 1817, at Keilhau. In 1840 he founded the first Kindergarten in Thuringia. He found followers in W. Lange, T. H. Hofimann, K. Schmidt, Kijhler, Bertha von marenholtz-biilow, and also raised up many critics, who declared that the Kindergarten caused children to be played out, unnatural, and irreligious.
