Thewvhole impression having bhen sold in 'ten months, and the high encomiums which have been passed upon it by the most em inerit of the Cler y, induces, the Editor to offer a second to patronage of the atholic Public, which he'has enlarged, trusts, in soms measure, improved: The s elling lessons will, on examination, be found better arranged, an some hundred words have been added to those which are similar in sound and different in Spelling~and sense. Z. 0 c In the second part two chapters are introduced, 0611 thesdevotion due éto the Blessed Virgin, and to our Girardian-angel, and Patron~ Sam Objections have been made to this work, because it does not contain some grammatical exercises, and also that the spelling lessons are not sufiiciemly prolix¿j Tolthe first, the Editor begs to observe, that he never found such exercises to be of any Service to'children at the age when they use this book, and when they e proper period to study grammar, it is better for them to have a separate work on the subject, many of which are to be had. To the second it may be observed, that most, of the reading lessons in the first part being divided into syllables by~hyphens, be considered as adapted tn the purpose of s elling as reading. The editors chief aim, in compiling t ris work, was to' implant the seeds of Virtue and True Religion into the minds of the rising generation, at theotime of imparting to them the knowledge sf 1 tters, convinced, as he is, that nothing is so neces sary to insure t e happiness 'of mankind, as to train up a child in the way he should go, fqr when he'is old he will not depart from It. If the divine precepts of a Christian life, and the necessor means of fulfiling them, , are but firmly rooted in the minds of Youth of both sexes, they will not fail tolbeeome virtuous ornaments of the Patholic Church, Worthymembers of society here, and hap y Citizens of heaven hereafter.
