All these small benefits are transient, but the light that a man of letters can shed must, sooner or later, destroy all the artificial evils of mankind, and enable men to enjoy all the good offered them by Nature. 1 know well that, in spite of this, there will still remain physical evils and moral dis appointments which must be endured by bowing the head under the yoke of necessity.
