It is necessary indeed that it be stimulated, or restrained, according to the field of activity in which it operates, and the subject upon which it may be em ployed. The poet, the painter, the sculptor, the musical com poser may give it a free rein, but the statesman, the moralist, the jurist, must check and moderate it, and blend it with an exercise of those other faculties which deal with the world of matter and life, rather than with the realm of ideas.
