Excerpt from The Alumnae News, Vol. 25: April, 1937There was little time to play. I had four big brothers and three sisters. In the winter when the day's work was done, all of us gathered before the pine-log fire that served as a light. Each one had to pick his or her shoe full of cotton seed before he could go to bed. Out of the cotton so separated from its seeds the clothes of the fam ily were made. Mother carded and spun the cotton into thread which she wove into cloth. Then she made the cloth into clothes - all with her fingers. If you were smart and worked hard you might have a nice Sunday dress or suit of homespun ¿ax. That was real luxury.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
