These were Vera Cruz, Coatzacoalcos, and Salina Cruz, in Mexico, La Libertad, in Salvador, and San Juan del Sur, in Nicaragua. The last-named point was not in the regular chain Of measurements, but it was considered desirable to de termine its position, as it was in the immediate vicinity Of the Pacific terminus of the proposed Nicaragua Canal.
