In the following pages I propose as much as possible to keep clear of this discussion, which tends to degenerate into a mere logomachy. There is no doubt that in most markets, and as regards most articles within very wide limits, an excess of demand over the supply at a given price will raise the price, and an excess of supply will lower it. AS regards articles also which are capable of being produced in variable quantities, a high price will bring out an increase of supply, and a low price will check it.
