Time hung heavily on my hands and during the long sunless days of winter it was a great relief to me to have something to occupy my time. It was generally known among the miners that I was writing the story of my experience and I had hundreds of applications for the little volume, even before I left the country. On my arrival in California, some of the largest dailies on the Pacific Coast made full page Sunday stories of the matter, and incidentally mentioned that I had written a book on the subject. Several ministers have used the facts to illustrate their sermons. All this publicity has caused many applications to be made to me for the book when published.
