Spatial Planning in Iraq

Angebote / Angebote:

Spatial Planning in Iraq: A Summary Review of the Planning Education in Iraq (PLIQ) Project reflects a long-lasting collaboration between TU Dortmund University and the universities in Iraq. Of central relevance in this book is the continuous efforts of both the TU Dortmund University and University of Duhok on the subject of "Planning Education and Spatial Planning in Iraq" since 2000. This partnership has led to the establishment of a BSc. Study Programme at the University of Duhok that graduated the third batch of spatial planners with a BSc. joint-certificate in summer semester 2019. The development, history, lessons learned and evaluation of the program is the focus of the first section. The remaining three thematic sections discuss various challenges in Iraq from the perspective of spatial planners, such as the continuing political crisis and poor institutional set-up, huge rapid urbanisation, neglected rural regions, missing public transportation facilities, fragile infrastructure and services, scarce resources and especially poor management in water resources. These sections represent the joint research development within the program between Iraqi and German scientists and planners that aim to illuminate these subjects and propose spatial and landscape planning solutions for these challenges. The book provides a thematic basis for the development of future joint research projects and a joint MSc. curriculum in urban, regional and environmental planning at the University of Duhok.
