Excerpt from Somewhere Near the War The British government, through its Ministry of Information, last September (1918) extended to a number of American newspaper editors and publishers an invitation to come to Great Britain, Ireland and France and see the war at the front and the war organization at home, and to meet British and French statesmen, journalists, soldiers and citizens. The purpose was frankly to give the American people, through the eyes of representative newspaper men, an understanding of the vast completeness of the British effort in the war for a cause to which America was committed as well as Great Britain. It was suggested also that there would be full opportunity to meet the French and to inspect the French war units and war industries, and to visit the American front.
